INTERVIEW QUESTIONS FOR ST. PAUL ALUMNI PROFILE
YOU ARE THE CLASS OF?
I graduated with the Class of 2010.
DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN HIGH SCHOOL?
In short, I was optimistic, focused, competitive, and involved.
SOME OF MY FAVORITE PEOPLE IN HIGH SCHOOL WERE?
Basketball Coaches
Basketball was more than just a game for me. I was coached by Stu Schaefer, Paul Pineda, and Neil Pineda. I appreciate them because they went the extra mile to find a way, each year, to blend 15-20 individual kids into one unit. Discipline was taught in the form of many sprints and critiques, but through this process, came the development of character and life lessons, which I still adhere to this day.
High School Advisors
Don San Augustine and Debbie Pineda were my High School advisors from freshman to senior year. I appreciate them because not only did they help students and myself when needed, but they worked on bringing our class together. Take Spirit Week, for example. During a relay race, you’d see those two cheering on our class, and they ensured that we all participated in dressing up for the various daily themes. I was taught teamwork, communication, and leadership skills.
FAVORITE THING TO DO IN HIGH SCHOOL?
My favorite thing to do in high school was to participate in as much as events as possible. In senior year, I stepped out of my comfort zone and joined paddling and wrestling teams. It was obvious that those sports were not for me, but I’m glad to have graduated with the memories that I tried.
IN HIGH SCHOOL I WAS MOST PROUD OF?
Sports:
I was a part of the high school Basketball team that won the IIAAG championship in 2009. In 2010, I was awarded the Far East Free-throw champion title.
Academics:
Of all the school subjects, math was my down side. I decided to not let it beat me and took initiative to ask my teachers (Jay & Jen Cruz, Brenda Mizuta) for some extra 1 on 1 sessions. Brenda Mizuta taught middle school algebra and was one of the most patient teachers I had ever met. I continued to push myself to learn, and now I have a career that deals heavily with numbers.
Musical Talent:
Students brought guitars to school, and their music was heard throughout the halls. This peaked a musical interest in me. I took lessons in 2009 and, today, use this talent to serve in my church’s worship team every Sunday.
AFTER GRADUATION WHAT DID YOU DO?
I took no breaks and attended the University of Guam (UOG) in Summer 2010. I did not know what career path I wanted to pursue. I was interested in the Business field, and my uncle Paul suggested I try accounting, which was his dad’s major. Five years later, I graduated from UOG with a Bachelor's in Accounting.
During those 5 years I worked part-time at Bank of Guam as a teller and in the loan department. I picked up skills, such as cash handling and communicating with customers. After graduation, I worked 2 and half years with Deloitte & Touche, one of the top 2 global accounting firms.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW?
In March 2018, I joined Docomo Pacific as a Financial Planning Analyst. I assist with monitoring budgets, improving processes, writing policy, and giving various presentations to Senior Leadership and Executive staff.
I continue to serve in my church’s worship team both as a lead guitarist and as a song leader.
MY PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT AFTER GRADUATING?
My proudest accomplishment is my career. Answering these questions has made me reflect on just how far I’ve come.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO SHARE?
You don’t need to have a definite plan when you graduate from high school; however, you must be willing to learn from your failures and mistakes. Having the right attitude determines how far you will get, and trusting in God, most importantly, is key. Remember to have fun and enjoy the journey. You may not always see the same people, do the same activity, but you should always try your best at everything you do. 1 Cor. 10:31 - whatsoever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
